La Spinetta's 2005 Barolo Riserva Campè emerges from the highest and best exposed blocks on the estate. It is also bottled only in magnum, which may account for the wine's tightly wound personality. Hints of sweet tobacco, dried flowers, crushed rose petals and mint open up with great reluctance. The tannins remain formidable, the 2005 Riserva is best opened well in advance or cellared for at least another 2-3 years.
