This wine sees the Sicilian grape Catarratto blended with a tiny 5% of Viognier that serves to add some mild floral intensity. The 2018 Catarratto Barbazzale is indeed fragrant and bright with a neutral bouquet at the base that offers some good vertical intensity in the form of passion fruit and honeysuckle. Those aromas take a little while to rise, but the wine does come into full focus within a few minutes, offering an informal and accessible profile from Etna and good value too. Some 80,000 bottles were made.
