Jeb Dunnuck (96)- "The 2023 Barbaresco Starderi pours a transparent ruby hue and is beautifully perfumed with raspberries, candied flowers, violets, and sweet herbs. Medium-bodied, it offers greater vibrancy and linear drive, with refreshing acidity, well-defined tannins, and impressive energy. Notes of citrus and apricot emerge on the finish. This should have greater longevity within the lineup. Drink 2026-2040."
Decanter Magazine (92)- "One of four MGA bottlings from La Spinetta, Starderi is born on compact blue clay. The estate’s longtime export manager Luca Cigliuti describes it as more Rolling Stones than Beatles (that honour goes to Gallina). Indeed, there is an intensity both in colour and aromas. Tar and smoke intertwine with rose, and despite ample raspberry and spicy currant depth of flavour, this weighs in, like many 2023, in the mid-spectrum of the scale – and it is charming for that. Fluid with fine, grainy tannins that clasp at the end but don't hurt, along with an explosive finish of pepper and brambles."
Jeb Dunnuck (95)- "The 2022 Barbaresco Starderi Vursu is medium ruby in color. It has a deeper aromatic profile, with elegantly layered notes of incense, anise, black raspberries, and hints of campfire and woodsy earth. It has a broader feel on the palate, with ripe, expanding tannins, medium body, and a more earthy finish. It is a surprising wine with a more savory feel and will benefit from more time to soften its structure. Drink 2027-2040."
