The Principio Toscana Rosso IGT is a fresh, modern, fruity blend of traditional Tuscan varieties (Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino) with Cabernet Franc.  Ruby red with bright garnet reflections, the wine is fruity and spicy, yet soft and round on the palate, with aromas of red berries, orange peel, spice and a hint of vanilla.  This “little Sangiovese” is a wine to drink now with its lively freshness and minerality, but also has potential for aging (about 10 years).  An ideal by the glass offer and a perfect accompaniment for a barbecue.

Crafted from the autoctonous Sicilian grape Nerello Mascalese, a dark-skinned variety that grows most commonly on the volcanic slopes of Mt. Etna.  The grapes for this daily red come from some of the most prestigious “contrada” or single vineyard sites, bringing a bit of each vineyard into the final product. The Etna Rosso DOC is vibrant ruby red in color with evident floral notes, fresh and intense, accompanied by perfumes of wild berries, currant and raspberry.  In the mouth, the wine is lean, yet velvety, with long, sweet tannins complemented by lively and persistent fruit, a combination that reflects this unique place in Sicily.

Grapes for the Batìso Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore Brut come from the ancient morainal soils of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, the most prestigious terrains of the area.  A strictly manual tending of the vines on the steep slopes combined with meticulous attention in the cellar and time spent on the lees make for a remarkably interesting and refined Prosecco.  A vivid straw-yellow in color, this Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG is richly perfumed with flowers, delicate mineral nuances and a pleasant hint of Golden Delicious apple.  In the mouth, a beautiful, lively energy excites the tastebuds accompanied by notable sapidity and freshness.  The wine is dry and harmonious, with medium persistence and fruity notes on the finish.  A fine choice for any occasion, from an aperitif through dinner.

Batiso Prosecco DOC Brut Contemporaneo

The vineyards for the Prosecco DOC Brut are located between Treviso and Venice, where the vines enjoy a mild microclimate and a significant variation between day/nighttime temperatures, resulting in a particularly perfumed wine.  The wine is a brilliant straw-yellow color in the glass while the nose exudes rich perfumes of citrus and flowers combined with a pleasant hint of bread crust.  The Prosecco DOC Brut is lively and energetic in the glass with a wonderful freshness and full body.  This is a well-rounded wine with a medium-long finish of fruity notes, ideal served chilled as an aperitif, with vegetables and fish or, as tradition calls for, in accompaniment to an entire meal.

Recioto is a sweet wine typical of the Vapolicella area (near Verona) boasting centuries of history, widely considered the father of Amarone.  Produced with grapes that have been left to dry (appassire) in order to concentrate the sugars, the result is a unique and opulent wine that pairs ideally with dry pastries (almond or hazelnut cakes), aged cheeses or sweet gorgonzola, but is also captivating as an after-dinner meditation wine. Tenuta Santa Maria Recioto della Valpolicella Classico entices immediately with its ruby red color and garnet reflections.  Sweet aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry combine with earthy notes of undergrowth and wet soil to complete the aromatic profile while, on the palate, the wine’s full and opulent nature merges with a pleasant and balanced sweetness.  The finish is long with delicious floral and spicy notes enveloped in velvety and elegant tannins.

Refosco Venezia Giulia IGT

The name Refosco, an autochthonous red variety from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, comes from “ràp fosc” in dialect, literally “dark bunch.”  In the glass, this Refosco flaunts a beautiful ruby red color with purple reflections, giving way to a well-defined bouquet of berries, violets and spice.  Flavors explode on the palate with intense, yet bright and fresh, expressions of plums, black cherries, anise and roasted coffee.  The wine is persistent with mildly grippy tannins that pair excellently with food, from cheese and charcuterie to meat and game.

It was out of love for this international grape varietal that Stefano Antonucci created Animal Celeste, or ”Heavenly Animal.”  This is an undeniably elegant and refined expression of Sauvignon Blanc, bursting with the tropical nuances typical of New World wines.  In addition to familiar varietal characteristics (like tomato leaf and bell pepper), its extraordinary bouquet is enriched by the verve and fruity elegance of pineapple, papaya and peach, together with an aromatic note of sage, thyme and geranium.  The influence of the Adriatic Sea brings an additional pleasant mineral, almost savory, note that supports the balance between the emblematic freshness of Sauvignon and a smooth, alluring drinkability.

The image of the Estate’s historic Rosso Piceno DOC was revamped in 2017, resulting in a new label and a new name: Stè, short for Stefano.  Vinified and aged exclusively in stainless steel, this is an easy-drinking wine, perfect for everyday occasions.  Bright ruby red with notes of red fruit and spices on the nose, rich marasca cherry comes through along with a spicy aftertaste of white pepper.  Dry and persistent, the Stè presents smooth, almost imperceptible, tannins.  An attentive and precise selection of grapes in the vineyards ensures the highest quality.

Pecorino DOCG

This white grape variety, typical of central Italy, was long forgotten by many producers because of its low productivity.  However, consistent with the Santa Barbara philosophy, Stefano Antonucci (along with a few other determined vintners in the region) brought the Pecorino grape variety back to center stage.  This incredibly versatile white delights first with its bright straw yellow color, with flashes of light-green, followed by a floral and fruity nose with hints of aromatic herbs.  Generous and vibrant in the mouth (aromatic and a bit of spice) with just the right amount of alcohol and acidity, the Pecorino is an ideal choice for any occasion.

Marche Rosso IGT Pathos

Pathos is a perfect intermingling of the elegance and intense aromatics of Cabernet Sauvignon, velvety balance of Merlot and the rich, spicy character of Syrah.  These quintessential French grape varieties are perfectly at home in the rolling Marche territory as well, thanks to the temperate Mediterranean climate.  Intense ruby red with penetrating aromas of berries (blackberry, raspberry), red fruits (cassis, ripe cherry) and a range of spices (red pepper, cacao, menthol), this wine is exceptionally smooth in the mouth, making it all the more enjoyable.  In Greek, Pathos is “the appeal to emotion” and this wine does just that, with its sweet and inviting tannins, minerality and lingering persistence.

Mossone is the result of Stefano Antonucci’s constant endeavor to produce wines of the highest quality, whether underlining the value of autochthonous Marche grapes like Verdicchio and Montepulciano or experimenting with the most famous international varieties, like this Merlot.  In fact, this wine is dedicated to Stefano, whose nickname is “Mossi.”  In the glass, the wine is a bright and intense ruby red while the bouquet emanates aromas of marasca cherries, blackberries and red fruit combined with earthy sensations and typical Mediterranean aromatic herbs (sage, rosemary, etc.), liquorice and balsamic notes.  Upon tasting, the wine is harmonious and fresh with an elegant expression of fruit, fine tannins and a long, persistent finish, almost savory.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Anfora

Verdicchio, typical of the Marche region, is widely recognized as one of the most noble, well-known and appreciated white grape varieties in Italy. The variety’s distinctive characteristics are expressed in the Anfora as a fresh, easy-drinking wine, vinified and aged solely in stainless steel to enhance its approachability. Delicate floral aromas and fruit are accompanied by intense notes of fresh fruit and white flowers. In the mouth the wine is slender and lively with a pleasant aftertaste of almond and rather good persistence. An extremely versatile wine, this Verdicchio dei Castelli dei Jesi is an ideal accompaniment to appetizers and light fish or vegetable dishes, but is also delightful all on its own. Langhe Bianco DOC Ben Turnò

Ben Turnò means “bentornato” (or “welcome back”) in the Piedmontese dialect and refers to two very significant events in the winery’s (and Ezio Cocito’s personal) story: the reacquisition of this portion of vineyard previously leased to another vintner and the return of Ezio Cocito’s only daughter from a long period abroad.  Intense and captivating, this is an extremely aromatic expression of Arneis, with generous aromas of baked apricots, honey and Golden Delicious apples.  Some of the luster typical of the Arneis variety comes through on the palate, while the Sylvaner and Chardonnay add a lively peach-like fruitiness contrasted by subtle herbal notes and intriguing minerality.  Produced from old vines, this is a unique and enchanting wine with exceptional appeal, a new approach to Arneis.

Fiano Di Avellino Riserva DOCG Tognano

Grapes for this 100% Fiano wine come from the renowned Contrada Tognano, historically considered one of the most exceptional sites for this traditional grape.  This Cru wine is produced from a careful selection of grapes harvested from vines grafted with the century-old Fiano clone (pre-phylloxera).  An ideal combination of soil, microclimate, altitude, and east-facing exposition make for a particularly characteristic wine.  The Fiano di Avellino Tognano boasts great structure, acidity and complexity while typical varietal aromas of white fruits and citrus combine with mint and slightly toasty notes.  Unique hints of hydrocarbon become more evident with time.

A small production of Cru Fiano di Avellino crafted from grapes grown in the Neviera Contrada, named for its particular north-facing exposition where, in Renaissance times, the snow (neve) was conserved as ice in a large well-like recipient until the following summer.  Still today, this is the area where vineyards experience the most significant differences between day and nighttime temperatures, granting the wines freshness, elegance, complexity and longevity.  Vinified and aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak, the resulting wine is intense, persistent and complex on the nose with enveloping citrus and balsamic notes upon tasting.  This is a wine conceived for lengthy periods of aging where it will gain even more complexity and appeal.

Gavi Del Comune Di Gavi DOCG

Produced exclusively from the indigenous Piedmontese grape Cortese, this Gavi di Gavi comes from three different vineyard sites within the comune (town) of Gavi, positioned in the Val Lemme area of Piedmont, on the border with Liguria.  This fortunate location boasts a nearly ideal climate, a temperate hillside landscape with the cooling breeze of the nearby Ligurian Sea, not too hot, but with sunshine all year-round.  Here the soil, temperature, altitude and morphology combine to yield a distinctive wine that is intense straw yellow in color with shimmering golden reflections, like the sun.  Grapes from the three different vineyard sites, each with unique attributes, are vinified separately followed by a selection of the finest results to create the base wine.  This blend of terroir yields a wine of important structure, capable of aging, that expresses strong, yet elegant, perfumes of apricot and citrus on a delicate mineral and almost rusty backdrop.  Warm, savory and harmonious in the mouth, this juicy white pairs well with vegetables, white meat, seafood and lighter dishes like salad, pasta or appetizers.  Incredibly drinkable, and undeniably enjoyable, the Gavi di Gavi exhibits all the personality typical of this small, yet distinctive, wine district.

Lacrima di Morro D’Alba DOC Pignocco

Lacrima is a dark-skinned grape variety native to the Marche region. The word lacrima means teardrop in Italian and is probably reference to the fact that the berries have a tendency to split, dripping juice down the outside of the bunch. Santa Barbara’s Pignocco Lacrima di Morro d’Alba is characterized by very distinct fruity aromas (particularly berries) and flowery rose and violet. In the mouth, a fresh vinous flavor dominates with marked scents of red roses and soft, sweet tannins.  The Pignocco’s light simplicity makes an ideal pairing even for fish.

Passerina is an ancient and traditional grape variety used in the white wines of central Italy, particularly the Marche region. Passero is the Italian word for “sparrow, ” the bird well-known to Italian vitners for its voracious appetite for ripe Passerina grapes. The variety is also relatively high in acidity, resulting in a fresh, inviting wine balancing freshness with structure. 100% Nero di Troia from 15-year-old vines planted on a southern exposure in clay soil at an elevation of 150 meters. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 3 months. No oak. Troia translates as “Troy” and lies in northern Puglia. Legend has it that the town was founded by Diomedes, a hero of Virgil’s Aeneid, who was among the Greeks holed up inside the Trojan horse. The grape is now scarce. Difficult to grow, vines were uprooted mainly by growers lacking passion, patience and resources to produce quality fruit.

The original 19th century recipe for Contratto Americano is based on a unique combination of white wine, Italian brandy and a delicate infusion of over 25 premium natural herbs, spices, roots and seeds. The Sezzana is a twin of the Sassontino, though not an identical one.  The grape is always 100% Sangiovese from 45-year-old vines, but the the Sezzana vineyard sees heavier, volcanic soils with gravel and larger stones.  (The two vineyard sites, Sezzana and Sassontino, are located only six kilometers apart!)  The Sezzana is a more muscular wine with aromas of red berries, rose, white pepper and minerals whose harmonious acidity grants balance and character to the important structure and fruit at the wine’s core.

The FABIVS is made from 100% Syrah, one of the first pure Syrah wines in Montalcino. The name is dedicated to Fabivs de’Vecchis, the Montalcino bishop responsible for the construction of the Palazzo Piccolomini in 1672. Complex and persistent notes of currant, blackberry, plum and cherry are enriched by elegant aromas of tar, dark chocolate and spice. This full-bodied wine is warm and soft in the mouth with persistent, well-balanced tannins. A powerful wine that is exceptional any time, now or after some repose in the cellar.

The original 19th century recipe for the Contratto Vermouth Bianco is based on a unique combination of white wine, Italian brandy and a delicate infusion of more than 50 premium natural herbs, spices, roots and seeds (coriander, chamomile, aloe juice, cinnamon, cardamom, bitter orange, carob tree pods, hibiscus flower, sage, China park, liquorice, etc.). The traditional slow, cold maceration process of extraction results in a sophisticated, well-balanced aperitif with a distinctive bouquet and flavor. This Vermouth is delicious served chilled on its own with a twist of lemon, but is also the perfect ingredient in classic and contemporary mixology, turning any cocktail into something special.

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG

In Italian, the name Amarone literally means “Great Bitter,” and was actually coined in 1936 within the very cellars of the Villa Mosconi in reference to a wine the Bertani family had been producing under the name “Recioto Secco,” (Dry Recioto) to distinguish from the much sweeter Veronese Recioto also produced using the “apassimento” technique. This Amarone is the most intense of the Tenuta Santa Maria wines, with its characteristic aromas and complexity. The wine is ruby red in color with garnet reflections, and the impact of cherry preserves, spices, and dried rose petals lend complexity and elegance to the nose. Warm and subtle on the palate, it presents an important structure and high alcohol content, balanced by velvety tannins and bright acidity and freshness.

Sassontino Riserva Toscana IGT

The Sassontino is a pure expression of Sangiovese from 45-year-old vines, allowed to age slowly at the winery for a full ten years before its release to market.  This is an incredibly fine and elegant illustration of the quintessential Tuscan grape with red and blue berry aromas followed by crushed rocks, balsam herb and licorice.  The vineyard site is characterized by loose, sandy soils with a notable presence of ocean sediments, contributing to the aromatic purity and finesse of the final result.  Rich and dense, a delightful vibrancy gives this Riserva a gracefulness that will continue to evolve for many years.

Contrada Feudo di Mezzo Etna Rosso DOC

100% Nerello Mascalese from 40+ year old vines planted in lava soil (volcanic black powder and small lava stones) at 750 meters.  Feudo di Mezzo is the largest contrada of the Etna DOC, but the Estate’s plot in the Contrada is only 2 hectares in size. Here the Nerello Mascalese exhibits an austere, dusky character with autumnal tones and a floral bouquet enhances by spice and red fruits. The palate is structured with rich tannins, destined for longevity.  After a long maceration, malolactic fermentation is carried out in 20hl-30hl French oak casks. The wine is then aged for 14-16 months in French oak casks and 18 months in bottle.
